European table tennis champion Rob Davies from Wales has become the world number one in the men’s category 1 for Paralympic table tennis overtaking world champion Holger Nikelis from Germany.
Before the European championships the former rugby player was ranked 5th in the world.
During the competition he actually beat the former number one Nikelis and beat the number three Jean-Francois Ducay.
It was an all Welsh final with Rob Davies and Paul Davies and Rob overcame is fellow welsh man to take home the gold.
Rob Davies said: ”It hasn’t really sunk in yet,
“At the start of the year I wanted to improve my world ranking and medal at the European Championships.
“To do what I have done is more than I could have dreamed of so I’m just very happy.”
